Hong Kong Disneyland
Just the second Disneyland to be opened in Asia after Tokyo, Hong Kong Disneyland is managed by Disney Parks & Resorts Asia and is half owned by the Hong Kong Government and The Walt Disney Company with the government holding the majority share. Hong Kong Disneyland has 2 resorts - the 5 star Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and the 4 star Disney's Hollywood Hotel. It is an amazing place with many more rides and attractions being built and planned.
Hong Kong Disneyland is supposed to be around 27.4 hectares in size but currently only about 22.4 hectares of the land area is being used which explains the under-performing nature of the theme park. The expansion is now underway and three new areas are to be completed. These include Toy Story Land, Mystic Point and Grizzly Trail. These are all to be found just outside of the Disneyland Railroad track which is south of the current Adventureland. When all this is finally completed, the park will be able to accommodate about 9 million visitors by the year 2014. Over a fifteen year expansion period, the park will then be able to handle up to 10 million visitors.
Currently however, you will find that only about 34,000 visitors come to the place in a day. In its first year of operation the park attracted 5.2 million people which was far below the targeted 5.6 million visitors. You will find out in a tour of the place that there is a Hollywood hotel just nearby for your accommodation purposes. Apart from this you will get the opportunity of enjoying the famous Disneyland rides available in the park.
The main park has four themed lands that are very much like all the other Disneyland parks you find across the world. There is the Tomorrowland, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Main Street, U.S.A. The missing land is the Frontierland which may be included in future expansion projects. The cast members that were used for the park use Chinese and English language. There are also those who use the Mandarin and Cantonese dialects in order to communicate with visitors verbally. Disneyland visits will never be complete without the guide maps, which are printed, in the traditional characters, Japanese, French and English.
In Hong Kong Disneyland you will get the opportunity of meeting and interacting with the various characters from Disney’s live-action films and animated features. In the Fantasyland for instance, you will meet Mushu, Esmeralda, Tigger, Piglet, Winnie the Pooh, Merlin, Princess Aurora, Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit, Alice, Cinderella and Snow White. In Adventureland, you could meet Terk, Timon and Chip and Dale. Also in Main Street, U.S.A you will get the chance of meeting Pluto, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse.
Hong Kong Disneyland definitely includes entertainment options at every turn. There is seasonal entertainment like the Disney’s Haunted Halloween, Disney’s Chinese New Year and a Sparkling Christmas, which are all, held in the park in order to celebrate main festivals. There is also a daytime parade known as ‘Disney in the Stars’ and ‘Disney on Parade’ while there are fireworks in the evenings for all the family to enjoy.
